Top 10 Flea Treatments for Cats

10. PetArmor FastCaps

Trying to hold an animal with one hand and apply a liquid using the other can be a sure way to end up with puncture wounds all over your limbs, which is why PetArmor FastCaps are so convenient. They’re small tablets that Fluffy takes orally — no wrestling required.

9. Pet Naturals of Vermont Repellent

Pet Naturals of Vermont Repellent keeps fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, and other creepy-crawlies at bay, thanks to its combination of lemongrass, cinnamon, castor and sesame oils. It’s not sticky when applied, so feel free to spray it liberally.

8. Vectra for Cats Over 9lbs

Owners of large breeds should keep a box of Vectra for Cats Over 9lbs handy, as it’s a quick-drying formula that’s easy to apply. It’s not greasy after you put it on, either, so you won’t have to worry about accidentally getting it all over your hands and clothes.

7. Elanco Animal Health Cheristin

Elanco Animal Health Cheristin is a once-a-month treatment, so you can forget about it for 30 days. And each dose remains effective for up to six weeks, so if you don’t remember to reapply at precisely the four-week mark, your feline will still be covered.

6. Sentry Capguard

Safe for use on felines from two to 25 pounds, Sentry Capguard can treat moderate infestations in young and full-grown pets. You can give it to animals once a day, but keep in mind it only eradicates adult fleas and should be combined with a preventative product.

5. Novartis Capstar

Online feline communities say Novartis Capstar is comparable to Comfortis, but it doesn’t require you to obtain a prescription. It’s safe for kittens as young as four weeks old, so if you take in a feral baby who happens to bring her own set of critters, this can help.

4. Wondercide Spray

If the thought of rubbing harsh pesticides into your pet’s skin each month causes you to shudder, you can use Wondercide Spray instead. Made with natural ingredients, like rosemary and cedar, it can be applied all over your house in addition to the affected animal.

3. Bayer Seresto Collar

The Bayer Seresto Collar remains active for eight months, meaning it will provide coverage for all of flea season, and then some. Should an animal get trapped while wearing this, it can easily force open the safety release mechanism to escape.

2. Frontline Plus

In addition to fleas, Frontline Plus also eradicates lice, making it a good choice for households with children who may bring home that troublesome parasite. Its applicator is designed to promote precise use, helping you put it where you want and nowhere else.

1. Bayer Animal Health Advantage II

Bayer Animal Health Advantage II is an odorless solution, so you can still snuggle up to your fuzzy little buddy without him smelling like a petrochemical factory. In addition to eliminating existing pests, it also terminates eggs and larvae, breaking the life cycle.
