The 10 Best Slow Feed Hay Nets | Pets Supply Buying Guides

This Review has been updated 6 times since it was first published in January of 2019. Just because your animal isn’t a pig, doesn’t mean he won’t eat like one. These nets help slow down the rate at which livestock consume their meals by making them work to finagle the hay out of small openings. This not only aids in digestion, but can also save you a bundle on feed costs. Be sure not to hang yours too low, though, as some animals may get their legs tangled in the mesh. The 10 Best Slow Feed Hay Nets

10. Partrade Trading Corporation Ultra

The Partrade Trading Corporation Ultra looks more like an oversized laundry bag than a food delivery system, but it’s a great way to reduce your filly’s rate of consumption. It holds its shape when empty, ensuring it’s easy to stuff without making a mess.

9. Cinch Chix

Made with heavy-duty DuPont fiber, the Cinch Chix can slow even the most aggressive eaters down without sacrificing its structural integrity in the process. Since it covers round bales, it’s a good choice for anyone who wants to put out as much alfalfa as possible.

8. Freedom Feeder Full

The three sizes in which you can get the Freedom Feeder Full allow you to gradually acclimate your animals to the idea of slow eating, as you can start on 2-inch openings and transition down to the 1-inch setting without making them too disgruntled in the process.

7. Kensington Bag

The Kensington Bag is as attractive as it is effective, so neither you nor your mare will be embarrassed to have it seen in her stall. There’s a strip of plaid running down each side, so the straw will be pushed closer to the animal’s mouth in a stylish manner.

6. Horze Net

You’ll need some room in which to hang the Horze Net, as it’s best-suited for use in stalls or along fences. Once you get it set up, though, the 1.5-inch squares limit the amount of food your thoroughbred can access without exasperating him so much he loses his appetite.

5. Freedom Feeder Mini

As the name suggests, the Freedom Feeder Mini isn’t going to be much help if you have a small string to sustain. It only holds 13 pounds, so it’s unlikely to be your primary dispersal method, but it’s fantastic for use in trailers on long road trips.

4. Derby Originals Natural Grazer

Don’t worry about finding a nail or hook from which to suspend the Derby Originals Natural Grazer, as it sits on the ground for easier access. You can fit quite a bit of alfalfa in it — around 3/4 of a 60-pound bale — saving you from having to tend to your livestock daily.

3. Shires Deluxe

The Shires Deluxe can be wound up tightly when not in use, freeing up space in your already-crowded tack room. Despite its miniscule footprint, it can store four flakes of straw without breaking a sweat, so your mount won’t have to sacrifice any of her lunch.

2. Derby Originals Supreme

The Derby Originals Supreme has adjustable straps on top, so regardless of whether you hang it from a fence or the ceiling, your pony can reach his lunch. The band on the bottom helps to keep the whole thing stable, reducing the likelihood he’ll tip it over and binge.

1. Weaver Leather

Anyone who spends a good amount of time showing or rodeoing will appreciate this offering from Weaver Leather. The 36-inch rope design holds plenty of silage for your steed while still being easy to set up somewhere in his stall or trailer.
